MINSK, 4 March (BelTA) – In January-February, the national air company Belavia carried 152,326 passengers, up 25.4% over the same period last year, BelTA learnt from the Belavia press service.
The press service also informed that in January-February 2013 Belavia carried more than 318.7 tonnes of cargo and mail, up 31.8% over the same period 2012. “These results have been achieved due to an increase in transit passenger numbers and mail,” the press service said. Experts noted that Belavia intends to pay special attention to the development of transit traffic.
In February the passenger traffic increased by 23.6%, amounting to almost 67,957. The national air company transported 156.3 tonnes of cargo and mail, up 20.1 % than in February 2012.
The summer schedule comes into force on 31 March. Belavia is planning new flights to Kutaisi (Georgia) and Samara (Russia). Flights from Minsk to Samara and back are to start in April. The flight to Kutaisi will be launched in May.
Speaking about the plans for the new season, the press service said that during the summer Belavia intends to fly to Russian Kaliningrad from several regional centers, including Brest, Grodno and Gomel.
Founded in 1996, the national air carrier Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus. It is based in the national airport Minsk and offers regular flights from Minsk, Gomel, and Grodno to 42 destinations in 24 countries of Europe and Asia. In 1997 Belavia joined the IATA, in 2010 the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA). Belavia’s services meet the highest international safety standards.
