Categories of the passengers

Belavia - Belarusian Airlines carries out transportation of special categories, such as:

  • unaccompanied minors;
  • medical passengers whose physical, mental or health condition requires special attention;
  • people with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility;
  • person with hearing disabilities;
  • person with sight disability;
  • persons with temporary physical limitations;
  • pregnant women;
  • senior citizens.

Passengers of special categories can purchase air tickets only through the offices of Belavia or sales agents. While booking an air ticket inform the agent about all transportation peculiarities of such passengers to provide all conditions for their traveling.

The carriage of passengers of special categories must be pre-agreed and confirmed by Belavia, therefore, the booking of such a carriage must be made at least 24 hours in advance, and in some cases - 48 hours in advance (for passengers in wheelchairs) or 72 hours (for example, stretcher persons) before scheduled departure.

The agreement and confirmation of the airline for the carriage of groups of passengers of special categories from 10 people or more MANDATORY at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure.

Unaccompanied minors

Children aged 5 to 11 years traveling without their parents and not entrusted to anybody of the passengers may be transported as non-accompanied ones. Children aged 12 to 15 years can be accepted for transportation on Belavia flights as non-accompanied ones as per their parents request.

Non-accompanied children are accepted for transportation only after filling in and signing of the Application for transportation of a non-accompanied child, payment of a correspondent tariff for an adult passenger and of a fixed charge.

The airline provides an individual seat in a passenger cabin and permits carriage of baggage according to the set baggage allowance.

Before, during and after the flight non-accompanied child is under permanent supervision of the adult person (representative, agent or flight attendant) and after arrival will be entrusted to the person appointed for meeting the child.

The cost of the service for the carriage of an unaccompanied minor (one way) is:

  • 50EUR / 60USD / 50GBP* for direct carriage;
  • 100EUR / 120USD / 100GBP* for transit carriage through Minsk;

* The USD rate applies only to the sale of UMNR shipments in Israel and Turkmenistan, the GBP rate applies only to the sale of UMNR shipments in the UK. For all other territories, the rate is applied in EUR.

If the route of transportation of an unaccompanied child includes the airports of Amsterdam or Geneva, the service cost will be 100 EUR more.

Belavia-Belarusian Airlines does not accept unaccompanied miners for transportation on the charter flights.

Children and pregnant women

Transportation of pregnant women is carried out under general conditions, subject to the following requirements:

  • a medical statement on the possibility of transportation by air must be completed and signed by a doctor no earlier than a month before the flight;
  • pregnancy must not exceed 36 weeks on the day of carriage. The medical statement must clearly indicate the stage of pregnancy, as well as confirmation that the pregnancy is proceeding normally.

Pregnant women whose period of pregnancy exceeds 36 weeks or there are prerequisites for premature birth, complications or other possible pathologies, it is necessary to provide a written permission from a doctor for travel by air. It is recommended that such women be accompanied by a doctor or other medical professional on the flight. If more than one child is expected to be born, it is allowed to accept for transportation a pregnant woman whose period of pregnancy does not exceed 32 weeks. A written consent of the doctor is required.

The medical statement must be issued by the competent medical institution where the pregnant woman is under supervision no earlier than 7 days before the start of transportation.

Traveling by air is not recommended:

  • women who are in the last month of pregnancy and within 7 days after giving birth;
  • newborns within the first 7 days after birth;

A medical certificate is required to transport children born prematurely.

Check-in for pregnant women for flights is carried out in the general manner. Check-in for passengers traveling with infants is performed out of turn.

Belavia is not responsible to a pregnant woman for the consequences, deterioration of health during and after the carriage, including early childbirth.

Ill and disabled passengers

Passengers with disabilities are any persons with physical disabilities (motor or sensory), mental disabilities, age, illness or any other reason, whose condition requires special attention and assistance, in addition to that provided to other passengers.

Disabled passengers include:

  • passengers requiring special service;
  • medical cases.

The carriage of passengers with disabilities must be pre-agreed and confirmed by Belavia by requesting the space control department no later than 48 hours before the departure, and for the categories listed below - no later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure:

  • stretcher persons;
  • passengers who need to use oxygen on board the aircraft, including the use of personal portable concentrators;
  • carriage of disabled people in groups of 10 or more.

You can book a carriage for a person with disabilities at the Belavia ticket offices (including the offices of the airline's agents) or through the Call Center: support@belavia.by. Please provide complete and reliable information:

  • the form and nature of disability;
  • an accompanying person’s data;
  • a guide dog;
  • the number, size, weight and other characteristics of individual vehicles (including technical characteristics of batteries if present) carried on board the aircraft.

We pay your attention, that with the aim of ensuring the safety, meeting the technical or operation requirements Belavia may limit the number of ill and disabled persons for any of its flights, even if placement of these passengers meets the special requirements including the qualified accompanying.

If the age, physical or psychic state of the passenger can cause worsening of his/her state of health during the flight or create a dangerous situation or cause inconvenience to other passengers, Belavia has the right to refuse such passenger transportation.

Belavia may refuse transportation, cancel the booking or remove passengers from the aircraft for health reasons if such passengers:

  • unable to take care of themselves without assistance in the absence of an accompanying person;
  • can become a source of infection or inconvenience to other passengers;
  • may cause danger to themselves or to others, even if transportation with the adoption of special precautions;
  • don’t have a confirmed reservation, and there is no agreement for the provision of special services along the entire route of transportation.

It is allowed to carry people with disabilities on a stretcher only with the accompanying person, provided that the transportation is paid in 6 times the fare Flex with the collection of airport fees in a single amount and the collection of fuel surcharge and other fees in 6 times the amount. The baggage rate is 1 piece up to 32 kg. Also it is allowed to transport the permitted medical equipment required in flight without charging an additional fee by prior agreement with the airline.

If the passenger on a stretcher is transported by charter flight, the airline charges the passenger a fixed rate of 200 Euro per flight segment to cover the costs incurred in servicing the passenger.

Belavia may refuse in transportation of such a passenger for lack of conditions on the board of the aircraft necessary for his transportation.

If the age, physical or psychic state of the passenger can cause worsening of his/her state of health during the flight or create a dangerous situation for his life the transportation of such a passenger is to be executed provided Belavia is not to be responsible for the consequences occurred as the result of existence of the said reasons.

Passengers with hearing and/or sight disabilities

While transportation of passengers with hearing and/or sight disabilities Belavia may demand provision of the corresponding document and presence of an accompanying person.

When the passenger with hearing and/or sight disability travels accompanied by a guide dog the dog is allowed to be carried free of charge in the passenger cabin of the aircraft in excess to the standard carriage of the baggage, provided:

  • the official document of the special dog training has been provided;
  • during the flight the dog in the muzzle and lead is at the passenger’s feet.

Persons with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility

When servicing disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility, equipment is used that allows such passengers to move between the passenger terminal and the aircraft, as well as to lift (lower) them into the cabin (from the cabin) of the aircraft.

In addition to the established free baggage allowance, each passenger is also allowed to carry free of charge wheelchair or other means of transportation for passengers with limited mobility.

The transportation of personal vehicles used under medical reasons or physical disabilities (wheelchairs or other similar devices for PRM) by Belavia aircraft is performed in baggage compartment only. The wheelchair must be booked no later than 48 hours before the flight departure. The wheelchair should be packed to protect it from damage or loss of parts.

Belavia-Belarusian Airlines accepts for carriage on its flights only such electronic devices powered by lithium or lithium-ion batteries that are used due a medical or physical disability.

The transportation of all kinds of personal vehicles used under medical reasons or physical disabilities is performed under adherence of the following conditions:

  • it is necessary to agree with the Airline the conditions of such transportation and prepare the device in accordance with the Carrier’s instructions;
  • if such individual vehicle is powered by 1 (one) lithium or lithium-ion battery the capacity shall not exceed 300 Wh/h;
  • if such individual vehicle is powered by 2 (two) batteries the capacity of each shall not exceed 160 Wh/h;
  • additionally it is allowed the carriage of 2 spare batteries with capacity of not exceeding 160 Wh/h each or one spare battery with capacity not exceeding 300 Wh/h;
  • the battery must be completely disconnected from the electrical device;
  • the disconnected battery must be completely discharged, placed in a plastic bag and put into carry-on luggage to be carried in passenger cabin of aircraft;
  • in case when the battery cannot be disconnected from the device it shall be switched off and the terminals are wound with an insulating tape.

Passengers using wheelchairs with manual drive are allowed to remain in their wheelchair until they board the aircraft. Electrically powered wheelchair (wheelchairs with electrical drive) or other electric vehicles are checked in and checked in for carriage in the hold of the aircraft. In exceptional cases and if technically feasible, the passenger may be allowed to remain in his wheelchair until boarding the aircraft, provided that the above requirements for preparing the wheelchair for transportation are met at check-in.

When transporting electrically powered wheelchairs (with an electric drive), you need to provide technical documents for the product (or their scanned copy) at check-in, which indicate the type of battery. If the documentation does not contain information about the type of battery, you are solely responsible for obtaining the necessary data from the manufacturer in advance of arriving at the airport for check-in. The information received should be presented in the form of an official message from the manufacturer indicating the parameters of the battery used on this type of wheelchair.

When transporting an electrically powered wheelchair (powered by a liquid (spillable type) or dry (nonspillable type) catalyst or lithium ion battery), the following requirements must be met:

  • if the wheelchair is designed for battery dismantling:
    • the battery must be removed from the chair and disconnected;
    • battery terminals must be disconnected and insulated;
    • the battery must be securely packed (in the case of a liquid catalyst battery, the packaging must be sealed) and transported separately from the wheelchair;
  • if the design of the chair does not allow dismantling the battery:
    • the battery must be turned off;
    • battery terminals must be disconnected and insulated;
    • the chair with the battery must be securely packed.

ATTENTION! When using a battery with a lithium ion battery, the power of the lithium ion battery should not exceed 300 Wh. You can only carry one spare battery with a maximum capacity of 300 Wh or two spare batteries with a maximum capacity of 160 Wh each.

Spare batteries are only permitted in carry-on baggage.

To prepare vehicles for transportation in the hold of an aircraft, the passenger must have with him the instruction manual for the product, packaging for batteries, a set of keys or a device for disconnecting the terminals and disconnecting the battery from the wheelchair. Removing the battery from the wheelchair, disconnecting and isolating the terminals is carried out by the passenger himself or by an accompanying person.

Belavia may refuse to transport a passenger with disabilities even if there is a medical certificate duly issued and signed by a doctor in the following cases:

  • the passenger needs personal medical care during the flight and there are no accompanying persons;
  • a passenger may make an unpleasant impression on other passengers with their appearance or smell as a result of illness;
  • the physical or mental state of the passenger poses a threat to the safety of other passengers or crew;
  • the passenger has signs of an infectious disease.
