15 years with “Belavia”

March 5th 1996 is remarkable for the history of the Belarusian aviation as the foundation day of the Belarusian national airline company “Belavia” . The company was founded on the basis of Belarusian association of civil aviation which included most airline companies of the Republic of Belarus.

During the last 15 years the national airline carrier has become recognizable almost in all countries of Europe, the CIS and the Middle East. Participation of the airline company in various international associations contributed to it greatly. Thus, the airline company has been a legal member of IATA (International Air Transport Association) since 1997. The airline company joined the ERAA (European Regions Airline Association) in 2010.

The inclusion of Belavia to IATA registry as the airline company that complies with IOSA standards was an important event at the end of the year 2008. The IOSA certificate proves that the company uses the newest advanced standards in the field of flight safety regulations, defines the international status of a safe air carrier, and gives an incentive to widen the company’s international cooperation with world leading airline companies, makes easier access to new markets.

The company started its operation in 1996 with airplanes TU-154B, TU-154M and TU-134A. In the course of time this kind of airplanes stopped to satisfy the requirements of the passengers and starting from the year 2000 the renewal of the aircraft fleet became the company’s top priority. Today Belavia fleet counts six Boeing 737-500, three of Boeing 737-300, four of CRJ-100/200LR and four of TU-154M. All the aircraft correspond with the international standards of technical safety and noise regulations, and can fly to the CIS and all over the world without any restrictions. Belavia is going to take on operational lease one more Boeing 737/300 in the nearest future. The acquisition of an airplane with the capacity of 70-80 passengers is under consideration.

Belavia is developing its network alongside with the aircraft fleet renewal. The aircraft of the national air carrier can be seen in 37 cities of 20 countries of Europe, the Middle East and the CIS. Charter flights are made to 91 airports of 36 countries of the world. The air company gives its passengers an opportunity to make direct flights as well as to fly to any point of destination of the world without delay, owing to collaboration with cooperating airline companies with whom interline and code-sharing agreements were signed. Such world leading companies as Aeroflot, Air France-KLM, Delta, Finnair, British Airways, etc. are among them. Transit passenger flow has grown by 1,8 times in comparison with the year 2009, its share on scheduled flights of the airline company is equal to 28,3%. Belavia has 17 offices abroad which fulfill important functions of developing of air transportation at the international market. New scheduled flights were started to Riga, Yekaterinburg, Teheran, Stockholm, Batumi and Ashkhabad from Minsk in 2010. Flight frequency on the existing directions increases every year.

For the 15 years of its development Belavia has achieved transportation capacity level of 1,0 million of passengers a year. The air company permanently provides high level of flight frequency which proves the high quality of service. Many times the company has been a prize-winner in competition, organized by airport Domodedovo, as the most punctual airline company.

A crucial step was made by the company in the sphere of information technologies. Belavia is one of the first airline companies from the post-soviet countries which started to employ e-ticket system. Then the passengers received an opportunity to buy tickets to any point of destination in the world via the Internet from home which takes only a few minutes to do. Belavia was the first company in the Republic of Belarus that managed to enable this service.

The loyalty program “Belavia Leader” was started in June 2009 and gave the company’s frequent flyers an opportunity to accumulate points on their personal account for the scheduled Belavia flights. It also allowed to use different privileges as well as to acquire bonus tickets. Today there are 6135 customers from 67 countries registered in the system.

In future the airline company is planning to optimize technological processes of passenger registration in the airports, as well as to implement self-registration service for the customers through the Internet based on the newest information technologies.

Flight safety, regularity and accuracy are the basis of the company’s image. The development of the national airline company Belavia takes place thanks to the team of specialists who has job experience and professional skills in the field of international flights, technologies of aircraft maintenance, organization of sale’s and booking systems. Most members of the company’s stuff can speak a foreign language and use it in their professional life. The flight personnel are prepared to the new higher ICAO requirements for the knowledge of the English language (starting from level 4 and higher), that are going to be introduced in March, 2011.

The national airline carrier is striving to improve their service level, so that the passengers, who have flown with Belavia at least once, would choose the company’s services again.
