Rules for transportation of funeral urns

General information

On flights of Belavia – Belarusian Airlines the transportation of funeral urns shall be carried out only in the baggage and cargo compartment either as cargo or as checked baggage. When transporting it as checked baggage, the funeral urn is accepted for carriage as a separate piece of baggage and shall not be put into other baggage.

Transportation of funeral urns as checked baggage is carried out in agreement with the Airline with mandatory pre-booking at least 24 hours before departure. When booking, it is necessary to provide the dimensions and total weight of the urn along with the packaging. The funeral urn is accepted for transportation only if the possibility of its transportation is confirmed by the Airline.

Booking and transportation of funeral urns as checked baggage is carried out only on flights of Belavia – Belarusian Airlines to the point of destination or to the first transit point. In case of a code-share flight or interline transportation with the participation of another carrier (other carriers), further transportation is possible only in accordance with the legislation of the country of import (transit) and on the basis of confirmation of another carrier (other carriers).

Check-in of funeral urns for transportation as checked baggage is carried out only at the airport at the general check-in counters.

Charge

Transportation of funeral urn is not included in the free baggage allowance and shall be paid for as an addditional piece of baggage, regardless of the amount of other baggage, in accordance with the rules and tariffs established by the Airline. Document requirements

When checking in at the airport’s check-in counter, the passenger shall present originals or notarized copies of the following documents:

  • death certificate issued by government authorities or a consular office of a foreign country;
  • statement/certificate of cremation issued at the crematorium;
  • a document confirming the tightness of the sealed urn and the absence of foreign objects in it (issued at the crematorium);
  • other certificates and statements in accordance with the legislation in force in the country of departure, destination (transit), if applicable.

In case of international transportation, all the documents specified above shall be provided in 2 (two) copies: in Russian and in English (if required).

When departing from Minsk National Airport outside the Eurasian Economic Union, the funeral urn is subject to customs declaration in writing.

Packaging requirements

A funeral urn shall be hermetically closed, sealed and marked.

A funeral urn is allowed for transportation only if there is a special package (container) provided for the transportation of urns and ensuring its reliable transportation. The container with the urn shall be sealed. It is forbidden to transport personal belongings of the deceased inside the container with an urn.

No screens that limit the visibility of scanners during an aviation security screening shall be installed inside the urn (container with an urn).

Responsibility

The passenger is responsible for the availability of documents duly executed in accordance with the legislation and requirements of the relevant authorities of the country of departure, destination or transit (transfer) for the transportation of the funeral urn, as well as for its proper packaging.
